As part of the Diwologue practice & research we will use
these online artistic spaces and Artware for our collaborative
production. Experimenting with the tools supplied within each of the
environments, as well as other open source tools. The content and themes
of the work will be different at each of these environments.

Online Artistic Spaces for Production

Upstage by AvatarBodyCollision

UpStage is a web-based tool for virtual performance. It is a visual
2-dimensional communication environment wherein performers are
represented with avatars, speech is displayed in cartoon bubbles and
spoken out loud using text-to-speech functionality. The use of props and
animations are possible. Avatars can be still-frames, flash animations
or live FTP webcam images.

Ecoscope by Transnational Temps

EcoScope is a communication tool that provides a context for discussing
environmental affairs. Developed by Transnational Temps (, it is a forum for voicing various environmental concerns. Since global warming and other atmospheric conditions, such as acid rain, are difficult to perceive, media can play a role in focusing attention on critical problems. EcoScope acknowledges by its structure the importance of participation in any meaningful solutions that can be imagined.

Glyphiti by Andy Deck

Glyphiti is an image composed of many smaller “glyphs” that can be edited easily. The qualities of the image are co-determined. As author, I have established certain characteristics. These include the size and available colors, which are black and white. But the state of every pixel can be changed by the visiting artist.

VisitorStudio by Furtherfield
